Ryanair Expands in Portugal: 14 New Routes and Increased Flights for Summer 2024

Ryanair Expands in Portugal: has unveiled an ambitious plan for summer 2024 in Portugal, introducing 14 new routes and aiming to transport 16.5 million passengers in the country by the end of the year. This marks a 22% increase compared to the previous year, further solidifying the airline’s presence in the Portuguese market with a total of 170 operational routes.

Rome-Lisbon Flights Moving from Ciampino to Fiumicino

Starting April 1st, 2024, all flights between Rome and Lisbon will be transferred from Ciampino Airport to Fiumicino Airport. This decision comes as a response to operational restrictions at Ciampino, where only six flights per hour are permitted.

The updated schedule includes:

  • Two daily flights from Fiumicino on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday
  • One flight on Sunday
  • No flights on Thursday

Passengers are advised to take note of this change to better plan their trips.

Expansion of Summer Routes

Ryanair’s summer expansion includes new connections from Portugal’s major airports:

  • Lisbon: New routes to Bari, Budapest, and Palma de Mallorca
  • Porto: New routes to Bristol, Billund, and Agadir
  • Faro: New routes to Belfast, Cardiff, and Rome Fiumicino

Additionally, new flights will connect Ponta Delgada to Porto Santo and Terceira, strengthening Ryanair’s presence in the Azores.

Increased Flights and Additional Investments

Beyond new routes, Ryanair is also increasing flight frequencies on several key connections, particularly between Portugal and major European cities. The airline is investing significantly in its Portuguese operations, with a larger fleet and additional staff to support this growth.

What This Means for Travelers

For travelers, Ryanair’s expansion means more travel options, increased competition leading to lower fares, and better connectivity between Portugal and the rest of Europe. The transfer of Rome-Lisbon flights to Fiumicino may be an adjustment for some, but it is expected to improve overall efficiency and service.

With these new routes and increased flight frequencies, Ryanair continues to reinforce its position as one of the leading low-cost carriers in Portugal, offering affordable and accessible travel to a growing number of destinations.
